Hardware basics 1

A few days ago, I have started new course. It is computer and internet. This course is very interesting and very useful, because it is all about computer. Computer is a machine that we have been using for several ages. So in this week’s post, I am going to show you what I have studied along with challenging points.

In this week’s lesson, we started with new first topic. It is hardware basics which included conceptions and number systems of computer.

As we know that computer is a programmable machine that processes the data into the information. Basically, computer consists of two big components which are hardware and software.

- Hardware is the electrical or mechanical parts of computer known as physical parts.

- Software is a series of related instructions that tell computer what task to perform known as program. It consists of system software and application software.

- If we have a set of computer, we can see that there will be five elements involve in information processing cycle or known as computer operation. They are input, processing, output, storage and communication.

As I have mentioned, there is a challenging part which is number system. Actually, I really do not know what number system is all about. Eventually, I know what it is. There are five number systems. They are decimal system that has a base of ten or X₁₀, binary system that holds on a base of two or X₂, octal system that has a radix of eight or X₈, and hexadecimal system that has a base of sixteen or X₁₆. The cryptic point is we were given chance to convert a number system from one to another. There was confusion in my mind. Nevertheless, I could overcome my confusion by giving a full attention on the lecture.

However, computer has become as a part of human nowadays. Why it is so, because it efficiently helps people in daily tasks with its strengths included its speed, reliability, consistency, storage and communication. What is more, people’s life has even become more comfortable and convenient.

Hello everyone……Nice to see you again

In this week’s lesson, I would start with memorable history of computer and also its categories along with system unit. I think it is quite boring content for somebody. However, I will show you in interesting way as I have been taught by my easy-going lecturer.
          Let’s start now

There are six eras. Firstly, early computer is known as Abacus. Then, the first generation is Vacuum Tube. After that, the second generation is introduced Transistors. For the third generation is IC which stands for Integrated Circuits. Later, VLSI and ULSI have been used till now. Lastly, Artificial Intelligence has been considered with full attention from today to tomorrow (future).

In the instance of its categories, there are six categories. They are embedded computer (GPS), mobile computer, midrange server, mainframe and supercomputer.

Once I have mentioned about system unit, here it is. System unit is a case that contains electric components and storage devices. For the system unit component, we know that there are four components which are processor, memory module, expansion cards and ports & connectors.

Nevertheless, I want to touch on a point that is central processing unit or CPU. It is a part of system unit that has an important role in computer, because it acts as the brain of any computer system. Here is the architecture of CPU.

Now we are at the end. Let me give you an idea what I have learned from the history. Actually, it is not necessary to know about history, but we should be aware how fast we have developed ourselves when we compare with history. If we develop as much as time is running, then we are suffering good conditions that can support us to live happily in this world.

WEEK 3

       Software basics 

Hi my lovely readers…thanks for visiting this blog.

This week’s post, I want to talk about software and programming language. I hope everybody probably knows about them, but let me elaborate on the points.

Software is the intangible part of a computer that tells what a computer supposed to carry out, and how to do it. It is actually a collection of computer programs together with the related data which is known as program. Software can be divided into three categories. They are system software, application software, Programming Language enables. By the way, every computer soft wares have their own task to perform whether to control, maintain, assist or communicate.

Once we know what software is, we should know the flow of software or known as software layers. Here it is.

Another point is Programming Language. Actually, it is a set of words, abbreviations, and symbols that enables a programmer to communicate instructions to a computer. There are two types of PL. they are low-level language and high-level language.

Lastly, I think they are all what I have learned from this week’s lesson. So I hope these perceptions of mine can benefit you in going beyond to any ICT subject.

WEEK 4

Computer network

Well…..well…..well. Good to see you, my great readers.

Hope you all are doing fine. In this valuable time, I will freshen up my post with computer network content. It is quite vital for us to know this content, because nowadays everything is connected each other even though people themselves need to be interacted by other people. As the same reason, we should know about computer network too. So let’s go on the content.

Computer network is simply a group of interconnected computers. It is where we share our resources, information or promote communication and collaboration. The major components of a computer network consist of Communication Media, Interconnecting Devices, Computers, Networking Software and Applications. Besides that, there are three types of network we are familiar with. They include network in small geographical area (Room, Building or a Campus) is called LAN (Local Area Network), network in a city is called MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) and network spread geographically (Country or across Globe) is called WAN (Wide Area Network).

However, it is my honor to share with you about computer network. In the meanwhile, I am glad to see you read the message from me. Now you are done reading the passage. So my hope to you is that you can understand what computer network is and what type of network that we are using now.

WEEK 5

Microsoft OS 

Welcome to my post.

In this week’s post, I will focus on Microsoft Operating System. It is a topic that should be discussed, because it gives lots of useful aspects of software to various users. Without wasting our time, let’s step on it.

Microsoft created the operating system and Windows. They have a version of the operating system that is designed for the home user, and a professional version. Windows is proprietary software, which means that we have to purchase in gaining the software.

       Windows 7 is the follow-up to the Windows Vista Operating System. An operating system allows our computer to manage software and perform essential tasks. It is also a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows you to visually interact with your computer’s functions in a logical, fun and easy way. For example, in Windows 7 we can view two windows side by side by using the Aero Snap feature.

By the way, there are five main elements of Windows 7.

          - Aero view

          - Taskbar

          - Search

          - Libraries

          - Gadgets.

Hare is the additional information. Once we want to install or run Windows 7, our PC must have 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor, 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit), 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) and DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

However, with the productive growth of Technology development, we have another option or another Microsoft OS which is Windows 8. This is the latest Windows OS with full of attractive applications and its appearances. Nevertheless, both Windows are effective, high efficient and suitable for all users.

Finally, we are as users, there is no matter whether we choose either Windows 7 or 8 to be installed in our PC, because both have their own specifications and strengths, and I hope that you can get my points on Windows OS.

          Microsoft Word basic

         Today I am glad to give you a gift which is quite useful. It is the knowledge of Microsoft Word 2007. Actually, it sounds familiar to any computer users, because it has been used in creating many types of personal and business documents including flyers, memos, resumes, reports, mailing labels and so on. In this week’s post, I will introduce about Microsoft Word in more details which include figure of it.

       Microsoft Word is a popular and commonly used word processing program. It is one of the most popular word processing programs. Microsoft Word is often used in businesses, schools and universities. Below, we can learn more about Microsoft Word, how it can be beneficial to us.

          Microsoft Word is a word processing program that allows users to create professional documents such as resumes, letters, fax cover sheets, reports, legal documents, brochures, manuals and more. It is an efficient tool for students, business owners and even working individuals to have on their computers.

          Microsoft Word has tools to format fonts, add clipart, add page numbers, and create tables and headers. There is even an "office assistant" cartoon that can sit in the background to guide us through the creation of our document or answer any questions that we might have.

          Lastly, Microsoft Word is often used by corporate businesses, community agencies, and can be found in most schools and universities. Students use it daily and business individuals use it for creating important office documents.

As can be seen, Microsoft Word is beneficial software which gives conveniences to people in order to do certain job or project. What is more, it can be used in any field of works. However, we are as students, we need to make use of Microsoft Word in our studies in order to make our work more effective and organized. 

WEEK 7

Microsoft Excel

I am very glad to know that this article is being read with full attention. In this week’s post, I will share with you application software which is Microsoft Excel 2007. Actually, we all know about it, but do we know what it exactly is. However, let me clarify on it to ensure that once you have read this text, you will gain some additional information.

Microsoft Excel 2007 is a spreadsheet program for Windows. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite, which includes other productivity programs, such as Word and PowerPoint.

          Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program whose options for manipulating numbers have made it the most popular spreadsheet program in the world. Its widespread use makes it easy to exchange files with almost anyone, or to display information in printed form. Because it is part of the Microsoft Office Suite, it can easily exchange data with that suite's database, word processing and presentation program.

        In Microsoft Excel, we basic cells and cell content able to calculate, analyze, and organize data. Basically, cell basics include select cells, insert content and delete cells and cell content.

 

         Anyway, there are still many more options that allow us to do numerical operation system, graphical applications and so on. As we are a user of IT, we need to know how to use it. Maybe we may think that it is not necessary to make use of it, but we might be in trouble in the future, because this kind of application requires a specific skill and it is the simple skill that might be asked once we are looking for a job. So it would be better for us to know, master, expertise and advance on this skill. However, in order to gain the success we need to practice at the beginning by learning it and making use of it, Microsoft Excel.

Microsoft Power Point 

New week comes, new lesson follows.

        Today’s post, I would like to share with some information on PowerPoint. Actually, we do not really focus on theory, but we dig on practical demonstration. By the way, here is some information that I have discovered.

          PowerPoint is the best-known software for creating slide shows, whether they're used in a grade school history class, for a corporate sales pitch, or in conference speeches. As with the rest of the Office 2007, the changes to PowerPoint are ambitious and drastic. The new interface rearranges every function we may have memorized, and the file formats are different. Plus, while we can hide the Ribbon by double-clicking on a tab, there's no going back to a "classic" view of PowerPoint that better resembles 2007's predecessors.

           Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 enables users to quickly and easily create high-impact, vibrant slide presentations. PowerPoint 2007 has powerful graphics capabilities and great formatting features that enable even the novice to create professional looking presentations. The user interface has been redesigned with the intent of making the tools you need easier to find and help us on our presentation.

              Actually, this software is not new for me, because I have been using this for almost one year in my presentation, but it however gives me a wonder after I have studied Computer and Internet discourse by its functions. From now on, I feel much confident about my presentation, because I could make my slide presentation more attractive and effective.

Internet

         Let’ come back and join me again. In this post, I will provide a full understanding about internet. As can be seen, people nowadays are connected by internet from one to another, part to part, pillar to pillar and continent to continent. So let’s look at about internet much deeper.

         Physically, the Internet links are computer networks all over the world so that users can share resources and communicate with each other. In order to be connected to Internet, we must go through service suppliers.

         The Internet is a worldwide network of computer networks that connects university, government, commercial, and other computers in many countries. There are thousands of networks, tens of thousands of computers, and millions of users on the Internet, with the numbers expanding daily. Using the Internet, we can send electronic mail, chat with colleagues around the world, and obtain information on a wide variety of subjects.

        However, internet is the popular network that people use for being connected in this world. We are as student. We should be aware the use of it, because it gives lots of thing to human. At the same time, it also gives hazard to people as well if they do not be aware of it. So I think this post might give readers awareness of using internet as well as some information.
